A hidden Tuscany to discover

Pisan hills are located in the heart of Tuscany, a hidden treasure made of little villages, slow life, wine producer and quietness.

The area is a land full of green hills, where nature lovers can find exciting trekking track, excursions, horseriding or bicycle in a typical Tuscan landscape with cypress trees and scenic roads trough the farms.

Little town of Lajatico, very famous because here is born and sometimes is here the singer “Andrea Bocelli”, and near there is the “Teatro del Silenzio” open for just one night a year but people can always visit because is open air situated on the hills.

For wine lovers, moreover than chianti classico region, extended in the area from Florence to Siena, they can find nearby more than 30 wineries, owned by winemakers with a lot of passion on what they do, caring about nature and landscape that sorround us.

Not only wine, but also home-made pasta factory from Martelli in Lari or Caponi, Amedei chocolate, Morelli with grappa and limoncello.

Maybe a lot of you know Vespa scooter, well is born and build in Pontedera, at the piaggio factory that host also a interesting public museum.

Pisa

32 km - 39 min. about

Where after a visit to the magic miracle square and the typical funny photo with the leaning tower you can walk in Corso Italia until “Ponte di Mezzo” where there are nice shops. Near ponte di mezzo there is one delicious shop where you can have a break with a good panino with prosciutto and other specialities, the place is called “Il crudo”, very suggested for a stop.

Don't miss a stop in Piazza dei cavalieri, home of glorious and historic university "scuola normale superiore" and a walk on lungarno river.

If like art you can have a stop at Palazzo Blu where there always going on beautiful exposition, or for street art go in direction of the train station, you’ll arrive in a big square, on the right there is one of the biggest murales by the famous “keith Hating” called Tuttomondo and realized in 1989.

Pisa has the biggest airport in Tuscany, just 25 minutes by car from our place, with european and low cost flights like ryanair, transavia, easyjet.

Volterra

30 km - 30 min. about

Volterra, a city "magic and mysterious", has its roots in three thousand years of history. Of each period, you can find evidence and traces that have helped make it unique in the cities.

A beautiful medieval town close to our structure, just 25 minutes by  car, very nice also the view along this street with fabulous landscapes.

For the twilight fan, the town is also famous because from here take name “volturi” from new moon and if you want there are still some tour during the night dedicated to this.

Don’t forget to see some places with alabaster, and also a visit to the Etruscan museum Guarnacci, one of the oldest public museum in all Europe and full of interesting things from the past. After the visit nearby there is a curious shop for a break, is called “la vena di vino”, go for a panino and a glass of wine and discover what kind of strange object they have inside…

Very nice is the shop “Emporio del gusto” situated inside the historic centre, here you can find food, wine, olive oil and sweet products directly from the owner  

Nice shops and restaurant.

For photo and landscape lovers, we suggest the way “volterranea” that bring in Colle val d’elsa and then Siena, here you’ll find some nice red circle installations on the way!

Florence

70 km - 1 hour

Is an open air museum, every street reminds you on the past ages of the Medici family and their reinaissance, full of artists and creatives. You can discover it just walking, stroll around and see what it has to offer.

Unforgettable a visit to Uffizi museum, considered by the times the best museum in the world. Or a visit to the boboli garden inside Palazzo Pitti for a nice contact with nature.

But, we like food and we want suggest some tips about that, if you want  a stop for a good panino and a glass of wine we suggest the experience of “all’antico vinaio”, very typical place that you can find just behind piazza della signoria on Via de neri. For a good homemade ice cream, go to grom near Piazza del duomo.

Then taste a delicious Bistecca fiorentina in one of the restaurants. Want a place for the nightlife? Go in Piazza Santa croce, here is full of bars, club and people from all over the world.

A romantic place with a view on the city? Go to Piazzale Michelangelo perfect in sunset or at night!

Lucca

40 km - 45 min. about

The city of Lucca, the provincial capital of Tuscany, is located between Pisa Mountains and the river Serchio in a fertile plain, surrounded by a hilly area mainly cultivated with

olive trees.

The historic city of Lucca is surrounded by beautiful renaissance walls, large green area and architecture of historical value incomparable. Enclosed by walls, the old center of town looks like tangle of streets and alleys of the Middle Ages. The ancient Roman city center coincides with the present Piazza S. Michele "in the hole" after church. And the amphitheater, the ancient center compared conurbation, but now within the city walls, coincides with the current square of the amphitheater that holds the original arched shape.
The historic center of Lucca is one of the best preserved of the world and includes many medieval churches of special architectural richness, towers, bell towers and Renaissance palaces of rare stylistic beauty.
As in many other Tuscan cities, Lucca houses numerous works of art, is a jewel in the open air, is a work of art as a whole and its individual elements and is a joy to visit it, walking through the alleys in constant surprise.
Closed to traffic is a city silent and hidden, romantic and cozy.

Seaside

If you want beautiful and clean water with nice streets with view on the sea I suggest the area near Livorno like quercianella and calafuria.

If you want something closer, with sand beaches, you can go at Marina di Pisa or Tirrenia, there are also two nice venues on the beach to have a drink and relax  “Pia” and “sunset”!

If you want other sandy and fancy beaches, have a drink, nice restaurants and do some shopping, we suggest Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore and Forte dei Marmi.

Beautiful beaches are also in Follonica, cala violina and torre mozza!
